Pearson adopted MuleSoft’s recommended three-layered API architecture:

  • System Layer: APIs that connect directly with core systems such as Oracle ERP and Salesforce.

  • Process Layer: APIs managing business processes like order management, enrollment, and documentation.

  • Experience Layer: APIs serving user-facing platforms such as Pearson’s web portals and the Agentforce interface.

This layered architecture made APIs easier to manage and enabled greater reusability across projects.

Pearson’s investment in MuleSoft delivered impactful results in a short time:

  • Student enrollments increased by 23%.

  • 74% of APIs were reused, significantly reducing development costs.

  • Agentforce is expected to automate 28% of support requests within the next two years.
